Smack Talk Showdown - Wrestling Party Card Game

Created by Double Turn Games

Smack Talk Showdown is the party game where smack talking your opponents is not only encouraged, it's necessary! The game is all about the art of the wrestling promo. Two players assume the guise of professional wrestlers and go head-to-head for verbal supremacy while a third player dictates the action as a Producer. Everyone not competing in the current turn (which we call a Segment) is the Audience and gets to choose the victor of the round!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Designer Profile: Lara Evens

Hey Smack Talkers!

In today's update, we are going to highlight our other designer, Lara Evens! a.k.a. Millihelen Design! She is a freelance designer based out of Antwerp, Belgium and does everything from book covers to multinational branding campaigns.

Lara is the mastermind behind our card design and the wrestlers that adorn our box, cards, and branding. She retooled our rough prototype designs, cleaned them up, and gave them a crisp, professional design. In one swoop, she took us from backyard indie show to Summerslam at Madison Square Garden.

Below, you can see the evolution our cards. From the very first prototypes printed up during a game jam on the left, our playtest prototypes in the middle, and the final design prototypes by Lara on the right. (Please note, the final design prototypes are not final production cards. The color may vary slightly in the final version)

Originally, we had five copies of each Segment card in the game. After playtesting, we found people didn't want to do the same Segment multiple times in a single playthrough. Now, every Segment card in the game is unique.

"Smack" cards were originally called "Spot" cards. We decided the wrestling term "spot," meaning any planned action or series of actions in a match, would be lost on people unfamiliar with wrestling lingo.

Aside from the color, the Name cards have seen very little change.

We removed the "One" and "Two" from the Name cards to help clarify that Name cards not need to be in a specific order. During playtesting, we found people were inclined to put Name One as their first name, and Name Two as their last.

We love the designs Lara created and are excited to see them in the final version of Smack Talk Showdown!

Hey Smack Talkers!

Last week the team received the physical proofs for Smack Talk Showdown! Since then, we've been going over each proof sheet to ensure the color, text, art, and everything in between looks spectacular.

Once we give our final approval on the physical proofs, Smack Talk Showdown will go into full production! We currently estimate that shipping will begin around December. Keep in mind, this is just our estimate. That time frame may change once we hear back from our printer once we give the go ahead to start production.

Speaking of shipping, we will be locking down address on Thursday, October 12th. Make sure you fill out your survey or make any address changes before then.

And as always, you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter
